Computer won't boot up
Hi all, this is my first post, so please bear with me if I leave something out.
Put together this system three weeks ago, and has worked like a champ until last night. I hit the power switch to turn it on, and all of the lights, and fans came on, but nothing would post. Tried it a couple of more times, then shut off the power supply, and turned it back on. Now I get nothing, but the green light on the mobo is on. Have made sure that the power switch connection was in place. All of the PSU connections to the mobo are in place. What in the WORLD do I do now. I've read through some of the other threads posted here, and really can't get a clear picture of what needs to be done to diagnose the problem. Thanks in advance for helping out an idiot!!

make sure your monitor cable is plugged in to your video card securely. re-seat your RAM and your CPU, reseat any agp/pci/isa cards you may have. If all that still wont work, reset your CMOS/BIOS via the jumper. How do I do that you ask? Unplug your power supply from your main board and then right near the 3.3 volt battery on your mainboard there should be a jumper with three pins. move the jumper to the other two pins for about 5 seconds. Then move the Jumper back to the original spot and re-plug your power supply atx connector to your main board. turn on PC and start hitting the DELETE key to get into your BIOS and make the neccessary changes to your setup.
also make sure your monitor is turned on.....heh

Well, I tried all of the above, and the fans, lights, etc come on, but still no post. I also tried booting with everything unplugged including all cards, cpu, and ram (except for power, ha!), and got the same thing. Then tried just cpu, same thing. Tried cpu and ram, same thing. That's what the Asus tech told me to try last night. Could the motherboard, cpu, or ram be bad? Or I'm I just bad? Or both!!

try with just the CPU and RAM. Try a different DIMM. Is the RAM the right speed?
make sure the AGP card is pressed in fully, you should hear TWO clicks as it goes in and if your mobo has one, the retension bracket should snap into place.

Another thought is that the PS could have died on you. Do you have a spare to make a switch?

Thanks for the quick responses. The DIMM is okay, as we tried it in a friend's similar setup, and it worked. I'll make sure everything is securely in place. As for the power supply, could it have enough juice to start the fans, lights, etc, but not enough to get the system up? I have a spare 350W supply. I'll check that out. Thanks again for the help!!

resetting CMOS didnt work? LED's = +5VDC is ok, Fans & HDD spin-up = +12VDC is ok. My guess is your PSU is ok and you have lost either the main board or the CPU....more likely the CPU...
