transfering files

I would like to transfer a lot of data, mainly mp3's, to my new computer. Here's my question, i have a networking card in both, i have an ethernet cable thats a good length. is it possible to just connect the two computers directly with the ethernet cable and be able to transfer the files this way? if not how would i go about transfering about 2-4g of data?

No. You would need a crosspatched cable to be able to transfer fiels between two comptuers.

Either get one of those (doesn't cost much, few $) or use some other transfer method (usb, cdrw, dvdrw)

1. USB memory card (the keychain thing, or compact flash) would work but not cheap
2. as muno said get a crossover cable (ethernet) to go PC to PC
3. Get a hub and connect your existing wires to that just fine.

Hmm.. It seems that usb host2host needs a special cable too.

I'd just get a crosspatched rj45 cable

//edit: That's why you have cd-rw and dvd-rw discs. To not waste -r's for something like this

Have you ever seen a hard drive die? It isn't a pretty site!

I have 20 cds with backups of my mp3s. Had to use them twice on restores.

Bless the backup Gods!
