high density and low density questions, please help

Hi

guys cant figure out the density for a 256mb stick and a 512mb

any way to check by looking ? I guess not but I'll ask anyway

aida gives me some info but Im not sure im reading it right
would 64bit be low density ? 128 high ?
also the rows and banks, 2rows 4 banks and 1 row 4 banks, is one of them low and one high ? I thought the one with 1 row would be high, but Im still not sure

all imputs will be highly appreciated

Thank You
Dan

You find the density of a stick of ram by the following formula:

Take the size of the stick (ex. 256MB of RAM)
Divide by the number of chips. This gives you the density in MByte.
Multiply by 8 to get the density in MBit, if you want. The lower this number is, the lower the density of the DIMM.

I'm not really sure how banking and rows work on DIMMs besides that the rows are usually the sides of the DIMM (IE chips on 2 sides = 2 rows).

Hi

nope dont work for 256mb, it was ok for 128s to count the chips, but the 256mb are tricky, have 2 sticks on hand, one low desnity and one high, both have the same number of chips and both have chips on both sides, now it says 1 row for the high and 2 rows for the low density one so I guess this means something, but still not sure if its bullet proof
anyone know for sure what the rows mean ? please help

THanks
Dan

maybe, I consider low density only the 64Mbit chips, lowest density out there from what I see
and I have a point, 128Mbit still doesnt work in many machines
right now Im trying to see which is the lowest and how to tell (counting chips dont work so good, you can tell the lower 2 from the hihger 2 but you cant pinpoint the lowest one, and 32x4 still doesnt work in so many machines, considering it low density is generally not right, lets say medium or medium-rare )
so far I guess the only real way is to tell by Mbit config, but there is no way to see that, anyone know some soft that will say what Mbit it is ?

Thanks
Dan

I can tell the ones in TSOP, TCP and FEMMA package since I can count the chips, but try that with the EPOC package and what ever else they have ourdays
