cable/dsl share

i want to share cable/dsl internet when we get it shortly. i was wondering if i could do this without a router or a hub or switch. i basically want to plug 2 NIC cards in this rig 1 for the signal in and 1 to send the signal to the other comp.

forgot to mention this rig is running W2k on( 1.2Ghz,512mbram) the other surfing comp is win98(400mhz,64mbRAM)

Yes...set the "server" to share the internet (the modem's connection)...and the "client" to connect through the LAN

Obviously the client computer won't be able to connect if the serer is turned off.

I have this setup going right now. My computer have two NIC cards. One to DSL modem, one to mom's comp using a 50' crossover cable.

We are happy.

The better option is a router. $50 or less if you shop it. More secure, and the sharing PC doesnt have to be on for the other computer to use the net.
