SATA native CD/DVD Burners?

Just bought a Abit IC7_G motherboard with 4 sata connectors.

do you think we'll see native SATA CD/DVD RW (or just plain old CD rom) drives in the near future?

I don't think so. I can't really see a benefit considering the massive difference between the current bandwidth and what SATA would offer and the fact that most computers don't yet have SATA controllers.

Once SATA hard drives become a little more mainstream you'll see CD/DVD stuff...but probably not in the near future...they still don't even use the current capabilities of parallel IDE...there are only a few drives that use UDMA mode 5 out.

I am thinking mostly in the way of connectivity.. never mind the band width.

That's the point though...there's no reason to rush out SATA removeable devices like that yet

it would be nice to have all SATA devices though without using an adaptor.

Well SATA has much advantage apart from bandwidth that such CD-ROM or DVDs should advance to SATA.

i) SATA has lower CPU utilization
ii) Hot plug is supported
iii) It uses a much lower voltage than traditional 5V PATA thus less swing
iv) The cables are much slimer, promoting air circulation and easier for installations
