9800 (non pro) vs. 9700 pro

which is better 9800 (non pro) or 9700 pro?

EDIT: or 9800SE (non pro)

9800SE has only 4 pipelines. It is basicallly a 9600. DO NOT buy it.

I would take a 9800 NP since it very easily overclocks to 9800 PRO levels and it has the better core then 9700PRO.

so the 9800 non pro is basically a lower clocked 9800 pro.

Well, that roundup doesn't even mention the 9800se (or am I blind?).

yeah, go for the 9800 non pro. I just bought one recently, and was able to clock it from 324/290 up to 342/321. It burns the 9700 pro in all benchmarks so far, even before the overclocking. Too bad mine can't quite clock up to a 9800 pro without noticeable artifacting though. Mine is the Powercolor 9800 by the way.

325/290 9800
380/340 9800 PRO
325/310 9700 PRO

Memory is clocked slightly higher. With the upgraded and more efficient core the 9800NP beats the 9700PRO. It's like AMD vs Intel. Can't compare MHz between the two.

I'll agree with Camaro, my 9800 Non-Pro at stock speed was already showing a good increase over a 9700 pro that a friend of mine has. When I clocked the 9800 non pro up to 325/310, it really just blew the 9700 pro away. Go for the next generation 9800, it'll be a good investment
