Backing up DVD's

I have ripped some of my dvd's to hd with smartripper 2.41 and wonder if there is any easy to use freeware to convert and burn the files to vcd, svcd, and dvd-r. I don't have a dvd burner yet but will buy one shortly. If the burner I get comes with nero will I be able to burn the files I rip with smartripper to dvd-r using nero or will I still need some sort of conversion software? any reccomendations will be greatly apreciated

I burned a vcd with easy vcd but when I try to play it with powerdvd it gives me the message, a disk with an unsupported format in drive e. With e being my cdrw, when I try to play the vcd in my dvd drive I get the message no disk in drive d. For output I selected bin cue image and nero reported the disc was burned successfully. Has anyone had a simolar problem?
