PCI vid card over an onboard AGP
Hey all here is my issue I have an older Gateway G6-350 mobo is an Intel 440BX
with an onboard AGP card I want to disable this and use a PCI vid card. I went into the bios and have been unable to turn off the on board vid card found the sound card but under Video Configurations i only have 2 options
1 Palette snoop (disable or enable)
2 AGP apiture size (64 or 128)
There is no options to turn it off...
gateway website told me to "Before installing the PCI video card, you must change a setting in the BIOS Setup Utility. In the BIOS Setup Utility, under the Advanced section, press the ENTER key on Video Configuration. Change the Primary Video Adapter from AGP to PCI. Press the F10 key, and then press ENTER to save and exit the BIOS Setup Utility. While the computer restarts, turn off the computer, and then install the PCI video card."
but i dont have that option
I also looked for jumpers that's a no go also...
only thing i can think of is a bios flash
any suggestions
txs

Thats strange, there should be a setting in your BIOS to set for AGP or PCI video. Should be a option called Intergraded Devices or somehting similar to that?
I dont think the MOBO will even use the PCI card untill the AGP is Disabled.
Have you tryed updating your BIOS?

Have you tried installing your PCI card, then booting up into safe mode, disabling the onboard video through Window's device manager, then rebooting?

There may also be an option in your BIOS to use PCI vs AGP for video display preference, without disabling the onbard AGP.
Definately look around in there [the BIOS], as I found many manuals to be as if written for a different machine, even though the model numbers match. Check every menu.

Usually get a DOS boot disk made on a Win98 system and put the flash util & new BIOS on that floppy. Boot to that floppy, run the flash util, tell it the name of the new BIOS (have it written down for reference, because you won't be able to "DIR" the floppy from the flash util). EDIT
I couldn't find a link to that particular model's BIOS. Perhaps if you have the serial number (asked for here: http://support.gateway.com/support/default.asp) , it may be more friendly to you than it was for me.
