Soyo KT-400Lite -- WD/HDD Cabling

I just put a Soyo KT400 Dragon Lite machine together with a new WD 40G HDD. I worked for probably 5 hours trying to get the drive to talk to the system. I finally had a wild idea and used an old cable select IDE cable, set the HDD to CS and plugged it in to the IDE-1 slot and"Wa-La" it booted perfectly. I then set the HDD back to master and tried 2 new EIDE cables, neither of which will let the HDD talk to the system.
I would ideally like to use an 80 pin EIDE cable to run the HDD.
ANY IDEAS????????
THANKS!!!!!
Aggie
P.S. This is my first post on the forum, so go easy on me guys.

On the Western Digital Caviar hard drives, if the drive is the only one on the cable you must REMOVE the master/slave jumper and leave it out.

I love WD drives, but this has always struck me as kinda wierd...but it works!
