DOS ftp question

so im here at work on my lunch break working on my speech for my class. i get it all done and the way i like it and want to send it to my ftp.

(please dont say email it to myself or use an ftp prog. )

i log into my ftp from dos

im in the upload directory

i type

ftp> put C:\speech 3.doc
and it gives me an file name not found. (yes its in the c: drive)

so i rename the file to 3

and type

Ftp> put C:\3.doc
transfer completed

im lost on why speech 3.doc didnt work but renaming it to 3 worked

just type "put" and a space after it, and drag the file on top of the dos window. then hit enter

The space in the file name.

If you did

ftp> put C:\speech~1.doc

that would have worked too.

Probably also

ftp> put "C:\speech 3.doc"

may have worked.

Does DOS recognize the space between speech and 3 as a delimiter? If so then speech 3.doc is not a valid DOS file name where as 3.doc is.

DOS 7 will accept spaces so long as the path name is in double quotes. Otherwise it takes it as a seperate argument.
