What do you mean "playing with his pc"?

Do you mean always tweaking it? Messing with configurations and hardware settings? etc.? If that's what you mean, then definitely go Win2k. Without a doubt.

Do you mean play a lot of games? I'd still say Win2k. But it could go either way.

Or like GZ said, do you play a lot of OLD games? If you do then I'd have to say...why? Why do you play old lame games on a new computer and new OS? Move on. Join us in the now. But if you won't give up Commander Keen then I guess maybe XP might be a better choice.

Personally, every time I have to deal with XP, at friend's houses, in the office place, anywhere...whenever I have to use XP I always come away from it with a new found appreciation for Win2k. I am never gonna like XP. I will hold out on Win2k until the next generation of OS or maybe just forever.

Well, I use both, for different reasons. Want stability? 2k all the way.

Want older OS compatibility, and more gaming options? XP's the go.

Just couldn't vote for both in your poll (should have enabled that option). So I voted for XP, as I've got more XP installs here than 2k, as the kid's didn't like 2k's game playing - especially for stuff like Age of Empires and other old DOS stuff.

But when it comes to troubleshooting stuff, and ease of setup - I'd say 2k is better.

Cheers
Mick

edit: Hey, what's wrong with Commander Keen?!?! He was my favorite.

I hate WinXP...

It's stupid registration, stupid cartoonish graphics, and it's wizzards that make me feel stupid.

If you want an appliance that you can switch on and check your emails once a day, and you are computer illiterate then go XP.

Everyone else go Win2K.

I will never EVER install xp again, I will hold out until M$ release something WORTH installing/upgrading.

M$ has certain services enabled by default, that you need to turn off in XP. I guess you could call that spyware.

Actually, I've never tried running Commander Keen in 2k. Now you got me curious...

Cheers
Mick

If any of you are having troube with troubleshooiting in XP vs 2k you are showing that you havent taken any time to learn much about XP. Every single tool and resource that you have in 2k is there in XP along with some that you didn't.

I used to sit in front of a 2k machine for 12 hours a day and constantly found myself missing things about XP. These may sound silly, by the my computer in the start menu is WONDERFUL. No need to minimize everything to get to it. Which means you can get to computer management and such easier as well.

I would be glad to give anyone here a nice shiny nickle if they can name and show me 1 troubleshooting tool that 2k has that XP doesn't.

XP supports more hardware and software. Boots faster, is more stable and more manageable. I have been running XP since before it was released and havent looked back. There was a bit of a learning curve to it, but once you climb it, the view is worth it.

If you dont care for the XP interface and start menu they can easily be turned off.

After about a year and a half, I got sick of putting up with Win2k's poor hardware/game/general software incompatiblity and switched back to Windows 98. It was not stable as it crashed almost daily...I even had to buy another NIC because the Linksys I had wouldn't install in Win2k.

Since I got WindowsXP...those problems have gone away. I'd never switch back to Windows 2000.
