Poor performance

I use Comcast high speed internet, and I've always had bad luck with it. At www.bandwidthplace.com I get about 500-900 Kbs. A few months ago, my connection would drop randomly, but through numerous calls they finally fixed it. Any ideas as to why I have a bad connection? I use Windows 98SE and a 10/100 ethernet. Also if it helps, I have a RCA modem.

Spend some time here http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks
The tweak tests, speed tests, and forums are all good tools to get the most out of your connection. You can also compare your results with others in your area.

Your problem can be related to the number of devices (read TVs) plugged into the cable connection itself. Each device degrades the signal a small amount, you need less of a signal for TV then for Internet so you could try disconnecting a TV and see if that helps, I had a similar problem and this helped.
