Motherboard error???

Does this mean that the motherboard is fried?

I've been changing some hardware configurations and now I've set up my ABit KG7 with the same 1200 Athalon Thunderbird CPU and the same RAM that it was operating before I got my new Comp. Now I've put it into a new case and it doesn't seem to want to make changes in the bios. I can boot it up and it will post without a problem... I can go in the bios and change stuff and sometimes it locks, other times I can go right to the end of the changes and when I go to quit... it doesn't restart the computer.. it just hangs.

Is this a mobo failure? can I get around it somehow?

Also.. it seems as though some features are missing in the bios.. I can't see my CPU temp anymore in the PC Health menu... all there is an option to monitor the CPU fan.

any suggestions?

thanks

Ram09

Try removing the battery and resetting the bios (normally done by moving a small jumper over).

If that doesn't work, try flashing the bios with the latest one from your mobo manufacturer.

Yeah I reset the bios a couple times with the battery out and moving the jumper.. the bios reset.. but it still was missing some fields... especially when I'm trying to find out if I applied the Heatsink on the CPU correctly and to read the temps.

Another thing is... I don't have a 3 1/2 floppy on it right now, would that make a diff?

No, not having a floppy on would not make a difference to the bios.

One thing you could do though is to load optimal settings within bios, that might load her up as normal.

You will need a floppy though if you want to flash your bios, which is what I would recommend doing now though as you have already tried resetting it without joy.

How you would do this varies from one mobo manufacturer to another. Info should be on the mobo site along with the file.

Good luck, if you get any probs you know where we are.

Yeah... I'll reset the bios... everything else seems to work just dandy... I installed XP without a problem.. so I'm just wondering if something screwed up.. I thought I had already flashed the bios a few years back... or last year... maybe something went screwy... it was out of commish for about a month or so just sitting in an anti-static bag.

I'll flash the bios and see if that helps.

thanks guys!
