1 - Radeon 9500 Pro 128mb
1 - Athlon 2600+

3 - HDD's (60gb 60gb 20gb)
1 - Mountable Inner Light
1 - Built In (outside) Chassis Light
2 - More Optional Fans I can install....

Er.....how much power would you reccomend for everything to run at optimal performance?

I recently got this rig and sadly enough my 400watt PSU fried itself for no apparent reason the other day. I have to purchase a new PSU and was wondering whether I lacked power or had enough and it just fried for no reason.

Any suggestions?

sometimes you just get bad power supplies...
What brand was the last one?
I know that Antec & Enermax are really good names for power supplies.
I personally use "Allied", They are a cheaper brand, but I've had good luck with them.

400W should have been enough to run your rig... But it never hurts to have more power. Just make sure you get one with DUAL fans. One on the bottom and one on the side. It just keeps everything cooler.

heh, yeah, i've never heard of Future Power before... More than likely it was just a bad PS.
A bad power supply can be the culprit of a number of problems with your system. It's always a good idea to make sure you're getting one of a nice quality...

I Hate Technology…

Man, I must have REALLY bad Karma.
I get home with my new PSU, hook everything up and im all happy and ready to reboot and get back to normal.

What happens you ask? I'll tell you.

When the old, cheesy, POS fried itself it made sure to take out 2 of my most precious things with it. 2 days prior I had about 140gb......now I have 60gb....do the math and you'll realize that it fried 2 of my HDD's. They don't rev up anymore, power doesn't seem to go thru them.

I think when it went, it surged thru the main wire that was connected to both of them.

MAN, I just lost 5 years worth of backed up data, most of which couldnt fit on a CD.....this is a kinda depressing predicament.

Do you think there is any chance in hell anything can be retrieved?

They are supposed to be pretty good. It may cost you a pretty penny, I guess it depends on how much the data is worth to you.

hope this helps.

Send a message via AIM to CraigK
Thats a really cool company. And the fact that they get to open up the hard drives and keep the warranty in tact as well as the data is awesome. hope i never have to use them though

DRIVESAVERS - DATA RECOVERY ESTIMATE

To: Me
From: Kelly Chessen
Date: 7/23/2003

Thank you for inquiring about data recovery with DriveSavers.

DriveSavers has specialized in recovering lost data for more than 16 years and
has a success rate over 90%. Our engineers recover data in as little as 24 hours
from all operating systems and rotating media including hard drives, floppies,
CD-ROM, DVD-RAM, removable cartridges, and digital camera cards. DriveSavers is
factory-authorized by all hard drive manufacturers to open sealed drive
mechanisms without voiding the original warranty.

For background and general information about our company, please visit our web
site at http://www.drivesavers.com.

Our pricing is based on the drive capacity, the operating system, and the
complexity of the recovery. DriveSavers will never exceed the maximum amount
quoted.

The estimate to recover data from the 60gb hard drive you described is:

* Standard 1-2 Business Day Service: $900-3900.

* Economy 5-7 Business Day Service: $500-2700.

There is a $200.00 attempt fee if the data is not recoverable.

* Priority Round-the-Clock/Weekend Service: $1800-6900, with a $400.00 attempt
fee.

Recovered data can be put on the media of your choice such as a replacement
drive, CD, DVD-R, DAT tape, magneto-optical or removable media cartridges and
floppies.

To start the data recovery process please call DriveSavers at 800-440-1904 to
obtain a Job Number & Shipping instructions.

=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o =o=o

In order for Drive Savers to insure the best possible recovery we will need to
know these details about the computer system.

Please tell us:

What operating system was being used?
ie: Windows, DOS, Mac OS, Netware, Novell, UNIX etc.

If the operating system is WinNT, is it formatted with NTFS?

If Win2000, is it formatted with FAT16, FAT32, or NTFS?

Total capacity of the hard drive or media:

Manufacturer/Model number of the hard drive:

Drive interface?
eg: IDE, SCSI, Firewire

If SCSI, and drive is used on a PC, what controller card is being used?

How many partitions are on the drive or media?

What are the sizes, and how is each formatted?

How full is the drive or media?

What is the problem with the drive or media?

What were the error messages?

What attempts have been made to resolve the problem or recover the data?

What utilities were used in these attempts?

What are the most important files, folders, and directories and what
applications and versions were used to create them?
