radeon 9800 pro bios

Hey everybody, jhust wondering if anyone had any experience with this. I have heard that it is possible to use a radeon 9800 pro bios with a 9800 non-pro in order to be able to clock the speeds up to stock 9800 pro speeds (380 core/340 memory). So far I've clocked my non-pro up to 330 core/320 memory. If I go any higher I start seeing artifacts and my system gets a lil unstable. Just wondering if anyone heard about this bios trick and whether or not it might be feasible.

The following is a post at the Newegg shopping site under reviews for the Radeon 9800. There are others that also indicate that they flashed the bios for a non-pro to the pro version. I have just ordered the Sapphire card, so don't have any the documentation yet, but am also looking for how to perform this magic trick.... Anyone know where can you get the Radeon Pro bios and flash utility to pull this off?

Brought this to replace a RMA'd 9700 pro that was causing random reboots in my pc. I am very happy with the performance of this card!

At first glance I was a little disappointed in the Samsung memory Sapphire equipped the card with (k4d263238e-gc33 which is 3.3ns DDR). It comes at a default speed of 325/290. Even at this speed it seemed to perform on par with the 9700 pro but totally stable. I flashed the bios to 9800 pro bios and now running stable at 378/337 (stock pro speed). Went from 4783 to 5473 3dmarks stable with no artifacts. Amazing considering the slower memory. The pro bios is said to provide more voltage to the memory making higher speeds stable than just a simple overclock.

In a nutshell, a great card for the money even if you don’t want to overclock. If you want to play around with overclocking then pro speeds should be obtainable (no guarantee though!)

Just found the following post for an ATI Tweaking guide that points to lot's of additional info on overclocking ATI cards; http://forums.extremeoverclocking.co...threadid=30933
It includes links to 3DChipset where there is an ATI bios flash utility, bios editing tools, and bios files for many ATI cards, but NOT the 9800. So closer, but still looking.

I flashed to this BIOS on my Dell 9800np and all seems to be well. Here is a link to download the BIOS:

http://www.shackspace.com/~nkmcc@sha...8-8004-NEW.ROM

And here's the orignal ATI 9800 Pro Bios from another post:

"I used this bios: http://www.doomiii.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/98-8004.BIN and 'atiflash -u -f 0 98-8004.BIN' to flash."

<<<<< WARNING >>>>>

The flash DOES work but you need to be careful what you use!! I made the plunge and flashed to what was billed as the "latest" 9800 Pro bios (filename 98-8004-NEW.rom) which actualy sent me backwards in my oc'ing. Had to go back to go back to 412/325 from np OC of 412/344 to get rid of artifacts. Boy was I dissapointed!! I was getting ready to flash back to the np when I though I might as well try the other bios I found in posts here. Flashing to the "standard" one (filename 98-8004.Bin) made my 9800np scream just as the forum posts suggest. It's magic!! Running at 425/380 with no problems. I'm not trying to go any higher as I'm estactic to be at 425/380 on a $250 Sapphire 9800.

You need to backup your bios to floppy disk.

Download this file or search on google for ati flash programs.

http://www.doomiii.pwp.blueyonder.co... 9800XT256.zip
This file also contains ati flash v2, and some .bat files with the program usage/syntax. Feel free to download and use. The program worked for my 9700pro and a 9800pro 256Mb xt so its pretty universal but there is a way to check if its compatable details in the file. Note there are also some 9800pro xt bioses in here, unless you got a ati 256Mb card dont consider flashing these, and even then there are supposedly different brands of memory chips used.

I am here because I saw my site got hits from this page.
