You should be able to go to add/remove programs and remove it there, then go to either phone and modem options, or Network conenctions to remove the protocols. I cant be exactly sure, because I dont have AOL or a modem installed in this.

AOL.....

I might be mistaken but the only way I thought you could remove every trace of that virus was to use the command "format c:\"

seriously though I'm really not sure how to do that without re-formatting (but that would be a last resort). I try to avoid it as much as possible. I don't even like working on other people machines that have it installed when I'm getting paid for it!!! I really think it will always leave somewhat of a trace on your PC.

Your not too far off on that. You'll have to edit a million reg keys to get rid of it as well. Just running the uninstaller does very little but uninstall the base program and components. I can't say too much abd stuff on aol as i still use it from time to time

Yeah, I was partially joking but actually I was being serious too. Once you get it on your system It's embedded almost like a virus is.

it's been said the AOL takes over window 9x

can you say parasite

virus that's good

format C:/

I don't think it does any harm, after runnng the uninstaller, just takes up some space, I've ran ad-aware, and spybot, and came up with nothing since leaving AOL 3 years ago

but then again it intergrates itself so well it may not be detected'' who knows

Well, in order to totally remove AOL without reformatting, you'll have to replace the winsocks as well! As AOL also modifies them. And as RicheemxX said, " You'll have to edit a million reg keys to get rid of it as well."

I've found it possible to remove most, but not all traces by running the uninstall from Add/Remove Programs, deleting any AOL folders, then running JV16 Power Tools (Reg Cleaner) to clean up the Registry. Finally, I replace the winsocks, remove the modem from the Device Manager and install different drivers for it. (AOL tends to modify the modem drivers as well.

So, as said earlier, the easiest way to completely remove all traces of AOL is by reformatting your HDD.
