Having a post count in Samurize?

I was messing around with Samurize today and thaugth it would be really cool to have a spot there where it had you number of posts on TechIMO. I have no idea on how to go about this. Anyone got an idea?

I'm sure it's possible...I think an admin may have to be the one that makes the script to do it though.

But I don't know much about the program.

I mean an admin of this site...it would probably also be a load on the server here.

No idea why post count is so critical

But anyways.. if you could download the HTML for your member profile page, and have the script parse through it for the information would probably be the easiest way.

However, I'd definately suggest getting a hold of Scott before even attempting to do so as I'm sure he would put a limit on how often it updates to avoid putting further load on the server.

Even better, what about a current threads thingy in Samurize? That'd be real cool, real time goodness.

The current threads idea is very good.

My thoughts on how to approach this:

1)Get Rob and Scott to put up an auto generated XML or HTML page with JUST the info you want in your plugin. Say a static version of the top threads box. This way it wont have to generate the page for each request and will put MUCH less load on the server.

2)Write a VB script to download and parse that info, then present it in the samurize thing.

There would still be the problem of how often it updates. 100 or so people with it refreshing every min 24 hours a day could be a problem and I don't know how to limit this. I think before this goes any further we would need Rob or Scott to weigh in on this. I have no idea how much capcity they have nor how much load this will cause. One possible solution is to mirror the list several places, but that would be somewhat more complex. Unless someone here is willing to host it (not on DSL/Cable).
