Screwed by newegg - what can I do?

I ordered an AMD Athlon 2400+ from newegg.com the other day. This is marked on the invoice on their website. However, I received a 1.5GHz athlon, clearly not the one i ordered! What can I do? Is the best course of action to just RMA it for a refund and buy the correct one again? This doesn't seem right though as I will lose money for their mistake.

How do you loose money? Have you even talked to them?

Someone made a mistake. Either you misread the page or someone just made a mistake when they pulled and packed the chip. I think you should contact them before accusing them of screwing you.

You're right, i probably should have chosen better words. I lose money though because they charge a 15% restocking fee for refunded items. I emailed them last night about it and tried to call them today but today's Sunday so the call went nowhere and I doubt anyone's received my email yet.

Please forgive me if you know better, but did you set your front side bus to 133mhz? A 2400+ has a multiplier of 15, so if you run it at 100mhz fsb, it will show up as 1.5ghz instead of 2.0ghz

doh!

Ah golfcart saves the day again

But just in case,,,
You would never be charged a restocking charge if they sent you the wrong chip. The should even give you a credit to return the one you have and send the other out NC. I've had errors made by the shipper handled this way and no problem.

I too think GC may have it. If not, newegg will treat you right. Just a quick email and they'll drop the 15%.

I too think GC may have it. Thanks for pointing out my ignorance and reassuring me about newegg if in fact it is the wrong one

If it's really an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ it will say this on processor:

AMD Athlon(tm)
AXDA2400DKV3C

"2400" meaning the model.
