Outdoors XP file help!

When I double click on almost any type of file (especially an MP3) it takes forever to open. Sometimes up to a minute! If I open the program first (winamp / WMP) then open the file I have absolutely no problems. It just started happening recently. Can anyone help?

This is kind of out on a limb but does this happen when logged in as a different user?

DK

I only have one acct on this computer and the guest is not activated. Guest wouldnt really matter anyway since most of the processes and stuff don't run.

Well I believe that the part of the registry that deals with which file is opened by what is specific to each user (although I may be wrong here - that's why I said this might be out on a limb). All I was trying to do was eliminate that as the problem. You could make a new user account with a few mouse clicks if you wanted to.

Here's the Deal

On my account like I said it takes forever to open files by D-Click. Even right clicking takes forever to open the menu. I coped an MP3 to the Shared documents folder and created a new acct.

Logged in, opened MP3, BAM! It was playing. Faster than a snap. It must have something to do with a file, application, or process that's running in the background on my other application.

Have you run a recent virus check?
I had a similar problem a while back and it turned out to be a worm of some sort.

Could be a conflicting application.
do a 'msconfig' from start --> run and see what is running at startup.

If there's a lot of bizarre stuff in there, may want to consider running Ad Aware make sure its not spyware conflicting (maybe sending off your glorious info back to their homeland)

Ad-Aware shows this:

Alexa Object recognized!
Type : RegKey
Data :
Rootkey : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Object : SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a}

Idea?
