810lm AMR Problem..whats wrong??

I have this motherboard http://store.yahoo.com/bilsystem-sto...durpcchip.html

I installed it no problem with W98se....put Dx8.1 on it...I haven't done windows updates yet though (but I dont think that is related to the problem)

The AMR modem hasnt worked yet.....it will install with the drivers on the cd...and it will do the little modem diagnostic...but it will NOT connect to the internet....I have tried more than one ISP.

I have two of the motherboards and two of the AMR modems and both modems do the same thing.

I used a different brand AMR modem and after some trying it did connect and stay connected. (I had to rename one of the .inf files in the inf directory cuz it was picking that up instead of the driver file off of the cd).

SO why wont the AMR that came with the board work???

It is a PC-Tel Si3024 modem and I have tried the drivers on the Install CD and also downloaded drivers from pc chips website for the SI3024 modem.

The board is a M810lm Rev 7:1:c

Is there any difference in the drivers for this board because of the fact that it has the duron built onto it??

On the instructions for the modem tha did work I see this paragraph.

"Primary/Secondary MR. There are two types of modem risers: primary MR and secondary MR. In appearance, the primary MR has a crystal onboard but the secondary does not. If your motherboard has an audio codec and no pci audio chipset onboard, you may use the secondary MR; otherwise you should use the primary MR."

OK, I noticed that the modems that came with the board do NOT have a crystal on them and they also DO NOT work.

The other brand modem that DID work...DID have a crystal onboard.

I notice that the board DOES have a crystal right beside the AMR slot.

Can anyone make any sense out of it?? Did they just send the wrong modem with this board??

Have any of you ever heard of the primary/secondary type AMR's?

Thanks, JP

Food

The 810 boards I have build with come with the PC Tel V1.1 or 1.2.
They work fine. I have used this modem with other boards with an AMR slot without problems.
There seems to be no need to change Modem CODEC Mode, (Primary/Secondary) and no jumpers to do so on this modem.
I wonder if the Vendor that shipped the boards to you included a couple of previously owned modems...

These are v1.2. It's weird to me though that the (primary) modems with the crystals work and the (secondary) without the crystals dont work.

In doing some reading I see that the ac97 works by making the audio codec the primary so since I am using onboard sound I SHOULD be using these secondary modems...but they aint working, lol.

Sad to say, but I ordered some Netodragon modems from the same vendor and I had to send back two out of 5 as bad.

And the vendor has a decent rating but.....

So, the board's BIOS has seen the AMR card and enabled the chipset's modem engine? Obviously yes, else you hadn't been able to install drivers.
Some AMR modems use Smartlink chips, others use PCTel's. www.smlink.com and http://www.conexant.com/support/pcte...ssistance.html for generic drivers, respectively.

Well, I tried two different drivers from the conexant/pctel help page....one wouldnt install at all..the other (unimodem) installed but it wouldnt work either.

I suppose at this point I have to assume I was sent two bad modems.
