messanger spam
I've been intruded with some bs pop-up every once and awhile which seems illegal to me. http://www.byebyeads.com/, also this link i've recieved http://www.blockmessanger.com/
It will give me that link to go to, i have been intruded and offered a deal to pay $24.95 to remove it.
I've tried anti-trojan, spy bot, ad-aware, norton antivirus 8.1 corperate edition to scan through and so far haven't been able to remove it, i only have msn 6 installed, i haven't installed anything else i can figure out that caused the problem as this is a clean install with windows 2000 with sp4, so there is barely anything installed and it's really aggrevating as when playing a game it will freeze me for a few moments and cause problems for me.
Would anyone know what this problem is or how to remove this? This is quickly becoming an annoying problem.

I hear ya, J:
I think it has to do with MS Messenger. I heard that you can rename the Messenger file in Windows and it won't launch. I did that, and unchecked it at startup w/msconfig, but it still seems to launch.
So I dwnloaded Zonealarm free firewall, and now ZA will not let Messenger access the internet.
Maybe someone else here has a more reasonable solution.

I swear we need an FAQ that nobody will look at.
That way when nobody looks at the FAQ for these questions we can just say HEY look at the FAQ
Yes the messenger service is the culprit as ER pointed out. You don't need to delete any files, or install any software... start --> run --> services.msc .. double click Messenger Service and DISABLE it. After that, STOP the service..
You're good to go.
