Someone gave me an idea over the weekend

If this exists, let me know!

My friend and I want to buy laptops that are basically 20-30 gig portable hard drives. We need to be able to use excel and word on them and being able to play movies/mp3s would be nice. We don't want to shell out anymore than $500 total and we don't want a piece of trash either. Does anyone sell systems like this? Selling systems like this could be a good business. Does anyone know the base price of a laptop?

I would just look for some older pentium2 or 3 based laptops and see what their price is.

ECS have "DeskNote" computers that are notebook shaped but have no battery, using mostly desktop parts.
The entry level A907 w/ Transmeta processor goes for 499 euros here, should be below 500 in the US. It has DVD-accelerating graphics (SiS 305).
