wether you use onboard LAN or an ethernet PCI card its not going to matter.

It may depend on the ISP and the modem, but generall XP will automatically recognize the modem as the local area connection and it should work fine, especially since theres no PPPoE involved for cable. If that doesnt work there might be software that comes from the ISP or you could just call them, they'd certainly know how to set it up if your uncle doesnt remember

I'm afraid you didn't make any sense at all.

Anyhow. Onboard LAN is absolutely no different to PCI NI cards, as far as the software side goes. So when you've done something wrong there, doing it the same way again will give you the exact same symptoms.

Just check in the device manager to see if the onboard lan is installed correctly. If you see any yellow exclamation points or questionmarks for the network adapter you dont have the drivers installed correctly. You should just be able to plug it right in like the old one. Unless, as stated above, the ISP requires some special software. Good luck and enjoy the trip.

Oh, so you haven't even tried yet? Well. Good luck then. Do everything exactly like you've done it successfully before.
