RH9 RPM Dependency problem

When I initially installed RH9, I didn't install the Gnome software development packages. I have since updated my system through up2date. Here's the problem. Now I need the Gnome software development packages but they won't install. It needs the package gtkhtml-1.1.8-5.i386.rpm. That in turn will not install because I already have a newer version. That version will not uninstall because Evolution depends on it. I don't know what to do here. I'm starting to hate RPMs...

i think you can install packakges with up2date too - try up2date -i gnome-devel or something similar.

Odds are very good there are several spelling mistakes in this post.

hello,
run up2date --showall and select the ones you need, then try up2date --install <packagename>

actually, you just just install stuff with up2date <packagename>, which works quite nicely, or you can downlaod the packages via the rhn interface (located here). on the top of the screen once you log in is a search box. type in the name of the package you need (in this case gtkhtml) and it will present you the latest redhat developed version to download.

These are all good suggestions ( I didn't even know about the up2date <packagename> trick) but here's what is probably the easiest solution.

Use this and most of your package management problems will be history.
