Can you get DirectX to support AGP texture acceleration in Win2k?

I ran the DirectX diagnostic tool to find out that DirectX isn't supporting AGP texture acceleration. It says "not available".

Here's what Microsoft has to say about that under help.

Quote:
Lack of hardware acceleration. Some programs run very slowly or not at all unless Microsoft DirectDraw or Direct3D hardware acceleration is available. On the Display page, look under DirectX Features to see whether DirectDraw, Direct3D, or AGP Texture acceleration is marked "Not Available." If so, you might consider upgrading your hardware. Or if you are using a product in the Windows Server 2003 family, you may need to enable graphics acceleration. You can do this by opening Display in Control Panel, selecting the Settings tab, and then clicking Advanced. Select the Troubleshoot tab, and then move the Hardware Acceleration slider to Full.
Oh screw you Microsoft. That's a brand new FX 5200 card and it's telling me that it's too old.

Has anybody else on Win2k had this problem?

I have an FX5200 on one of my cows that runs Win2K, no problems here.

AFAIK, the FX5200 is a direct replacement for the GeForce4MX range of GPU's, but they should still have all the new fancy stuff.

You could try updating the drivers as the ones that come with the FX's are normally quite old.

Most mobo chipset drivers come with an AGP miniport driver, You might not have it installed properly, it could be down to that?

Also, check your bios, some have an option for how to load your video card pci or agp, also, check that you have selected 4x or 8x agp if applicable.

Hope that helps.

HI, I have FX 5200, byt with Win ME. I had this problem and solve it.
I did some things, you can decide what is right!

1. Bios flash
2. Drivers for Nvidia (for ME the latest is 44.03)
3. AGP driver, according to your chipset (mine is intel865)
4. DX9.0a

If this will not help, try Riva tuner to recognize your GARTdriver.

Good luck

Go into the display properties, click on settings, advanced, then the gf-fx tab, it says its running in PCI mode hey?

Install your motherboards chipset/AGP drivers. That should fix ya up.

I installed the new drivers and that fixed everything right up. It runs great now. I just ran GL Excess again and my computer scored 60% higher than before; that's awesome .

Thanks so much guys!
