Turtle Beach
After reading through many of the post here and on Sharky Extreme, I finally upgraded from my Hercules Muse 5.1 and bought the Santa Cruz 5.1 channel surround card today. I am happily crusing on "Turtle Beach". The water is fine! I'm still playing with all the bells & whistles, and haven't put it through all its paces yet, but I'm very pleased with what I've heard so far.

Very Cool! Welcome to the club. I've been using one for the past six months and couldn't be happier.

Ditto! Backing it up here with some Klipsch Promedia 4.1's. |

>Hercules Muse 5.1 and bought the Santa Cruz 5.1
coincidently, i've bought both cards recently.
the turtle beach was purchased for my primary system last october (connected to a pair of promedia 2.1's) for audio playback & vinyl-to-cd recording. and the muse 5.1, i bought about 2 months ago for a secondary system...wanted a cheap but good sound card (and i could not find a cheap price for another santa cruz card).

This card smokes! I just gave it my DVD sound test. I used the opening battle scene in "Gladiator" using the dts audio option, and heard sounds I hadn't heard before. It was incredible. I only have Creative's 5.1 Inspires, but in my small room, the Santa Cruz made me feel I was at IMAX. And this was at low volume. It's a bit late here, so I'll give it a good test tomorrow! Now I'm going to try it out on my Sennheiser headphones!

I just picked one up myself a few weeks ago. It is great indeed.
(It's using speakers by Tandy for now) |

My Muse 5.1 served me well, PresterJohn. We have trickle-down-economy at my house, so my oldest daughter will inherit the Muse. She mostly plays a lot of mp3 files and her music CDs, so it will work great for her. She also got my old ALTEC 4.1 speakers a few weeks ago. Her SoundBlaster 512 will go in my youngest daughter's computer.

I run one myself.
Though it's an "older" card, it's still one of the better ones out there.
Not as fast in some games as CL cards, but definatly much better for music and DVD. Plus, none of the bloatware I had with my CL Live and Audigy cards.
My only 2 complaints:
-Line-in does not run through the EQ. Cant tweak my stereo reciever's levels.
-The mixer panel is HUGE. I'd like the option of a smaller skin for this.
Other than that, I've loved the card. Much better than any CL card I've had....

yeah, the muse will do fine for her.
my dilemma now, is that every time i listen to music to my secondary system, my ears keep comparing it to my klipsch's and these labtec speakers on the muse just ain't doing the job.
i'm trying mighty hard to resist buying another pair of promedia's. |
