Systems IE6 and Language Fonts

Having problems running Chinese Traditional Language support. Webpages are not correctly displaying Chinese characters. Tried many things, such as:
- Manually selecting Chinese Traditional (Big5) from encoding menu.
- Reinstalling language from Windows Update over and over again.
- Reinstalling IE6

I did notice one strange thing. In the Fonts page in Internet Options, the TrueType font, called "MingLiu" was not listed in the Plain text font box when I select "Chinese Traditional" in the Language Script dialog box. In fact, there is no font listed. Read some place that this font is needed....why didn't it download with MS Windows update??

Anyway, if anyone has any other ideas, much appreciated...I'm running Pentium II Win98. thanks...

i'm not sure about this, but i think u need to install the fonts separately on ur system for the applications to use them.

try going to 'control panel' and 'fonts' and see if the required chinese traditional fonts (mingliu?) are there. if not maybe u can google the font, download and install and see what happens?

dunno why windows update didn't download it tho!

Misc

Thanks for the advice. Turns out the Chinese Font "MingLiu" was indeed corrupt. In fact, could not see the font in the Windows\Fonts directory. Downloaded shareware utility called TypoGraf to remove the True Type Font. Then found site with Google search called "FreeFonts" to reinstall the Font. All works fine now ! ! thanks again....
