Chieftec Case plus power supply

I am planning on getting a Chieftec case with a 450w power supply from newegg. Here is a list of some of the cases:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...tby=14&order=1

I am planning on running a Pentium 4, 3.0 Ghz 800 fsb. No where in the description of the power supplies does it say P4 approved. On the case I am leaning towards most it says "AMD approved." Will a Pentium 4 work on this Power Supply?

I'm sure it is...it's a newer one than my case is, and the power supply in mine (Turbolink 420W) is P4 ready.

Yup, it'll work fine. The fact that it's approved doesn't mean intel or amd tested it anyway, it just means that the wattage is sufficient.

Well, I think it's a little more than that. Like on an "AMD approved" PSU, I think it needs to have a fan on the bottom of the PSU in addition to the one in the back, to help remove the heat from the CPU. That's for those who don't have adequate case cooling.

I thought I read somewhere that Pentium 4's must have a Pentium 4 compliant power supply, which has an extra wire to the motherboard?

That's what it is to be P4 ready...aside the P1 to the motherboard, there's a 4 prong connector that goes to the motherboard as well to power the CPU...this feature slowly coming to AMD boards.

Ok, none of the power supplies say P4 ready. I am about to buy it anyway, but I'd rather not take the risk.

My recent MSI board also utilized this extra plug, my asus does not, however. Y'all are right about the specs, I was just kinda giving a generic synopsis, my bad

If you look at the side view, you can actually see the P4 power connector in the picture on newegg's site.

Whether or not that's the exact supply that ships with that unit is questionable, but at least you could say "well, it showed it in the picture" if you needed to send it back (pretty darned unlikely you'd need to though).

I thought I saw it in the picture too...but my monitor sucks so I didn't want to risk it since I wasn't sure.

If you want to be completely sure, you might look around Chieftec's website
