Strange Popup

Hey Peeps

Did anyone here ever encounter a program called Stop-Sign? My neighbor who is to far away to drive to emailed me about this little box that keeps popping up on her computer saying do you want to run Stop-Sign now. I told her all the usual stuff cookies, Ad-Aware and such but to no avail. Any Suggestions.

It could be one of those Messenger service thingamies that are network enabled. The way to stop those is to disable the Messenger Service itself (that's not MS Messenger BTW). In XP it's listed under "Services" in Admin tools. Also check that NetBios is disabled or blocked from i-net access.

Hi - Sounds like a nasty one. Try using a combination of add/remove ALL eanthology programs/and the most updated version of spybot you can. This thread might provide some assistance.

Looks like a real stickler so post back if you find a better solution. Good Luck!

My appologies, I'm not sure if NetBios can be turned off, but it can be blocked from accessing the i-net with XP's built-in firewall (or any firewall worth it's salt) ...if it's enabled.

Read about NetBIOS, and don't let it broadcast to the i-net!

highlife is correct about the eAnthology thing. just do like he says and add/remove. I got stop sign and all that bullsh*t when i got one of my P2P programs. all that packaged stuff that comes with free software is really annoying.
