XP Registry Files

Greetings all,

I have here a customer's machine in which I need to restore the registry. Normally this would not be an issue as I would just copy the backups from the WINDOWS\repair directory. However, there is a problem...

The necessary files do not exist in system32\config or WINDOWS\repair. My question to you all is:

Where are the registry files (SYSTEM, SAM, SECURITY, etc.) located on the XP CD so that I can copy them into the system?

Registry files are created during setup and further installation of software. It is a record of what's on a specific machine. It is not a file you can simply copy from the CD. It is generated during installation.

Windows 95/98 I remember kept 4 back up copies in some folder.

Not sure where XP has them but it is there. Will get back.
