gateway ev600 video won't initialize
i've been working on my brother's computer for the past week, and the other day something REALLY bad happened....
it's a gateway ev600 (SLOT A athlon @ 600MHz), voodoo3 300 (AGP). i had recently added a new HDD, fearing that the original was soon going to fail, and it did. not a problem, while attempting some file recovery methods, it came that i had to unplug the machine, and when i went to plug it back in *ZORT* a large (1/8" - 1/4") arc sprag from the wall and onto said plug. now, the computer *seems* to boot up fine, but will not initilize the video card, and send a signal to the monitor. i have swapped out the video card for a known good spare AGP, then a known good spare PCI, still no video. if this helps, i've uplugged everything from the mobo, including the proc, and it doesn't seem to alter the current boot-up situation, nor does it elicit any useful CMOS error-code beeps. the power light comes on, the HDD light flickers a few times, just the way it did before all this happened....
is there any hope for this box? should i just bag it and swap the mobo/proc for an athlon XP? i know taking it to a shop will likely cost as much as that, so i'd rather keep this restricted to my basement/living room....
any help would be much appreciated
