I just tried it. Took it from default to
218 Mhz core clock
395 Mhz Memory clock
My GLExcess scores went from 4552 (last page of results) to 9183 (first page of results. I ran the benchmark at 1024x768 @ 32 bits. I am totally blown away! It is hard for me to believe that a combined total of 80 Mhz would make that much differnce in anything. But, it is obvious it does, at least in benchmarking, that is.
Now, I have no idea what difference that will make in actual gaming performance. The only game I mess with is Star Trek Bridge Commander. However, as far as benchmarks is concerned, that is quite a significant jump. I mean, after reading the system specs of the fourteen results ahead of mine, those systems were way faster than mine with the lastest and greatest video cards on the market. So, that makes me smile.
Coolbits is a real easy little utility to work with. I like being able to set it, do my benchs or play a game, and then go back and reset it, all without having to reboot. Nifty! Thanks for leading me in that direction. I am a happy and satisfied customer.
