Systems win2k server freezes on install

I've been down the whole gambit, checked, rechecked all the bios settings, changed them all 1 by 1 .

I took out all nic cards, everything but the video card was removed. I removed "after installing the software"
the CD and then put it back in. Same with the Diskette Drive.

I fdisked, formatted 5 different hard drives, all worked on another machine.

Then I installed win98, perfect install. System was up and running with one problem. The mouse's hour glass kept flickering on and off. I didn't notice it until after installing win2k server ?

I installed win2k server in it's on directory, keeping win98 on as a backup.

I can still boot into win98. When I boot into win2k, the win2k splash screen pops up and after a few minutes of doing it's thing, the system just freezes. The install is never complete, after rebooting several times, i get the same frozen splash screen. Shut the system down and boot into win98 with no problems..

Any suggestions would be greatly apprecitated.

Rick

Have you tried installing on a separate partition?

I'm a little confused. W2K server must be installed on a NTFS partition. Win98 uses FAT32. If you are trying to install W2K server into a directory located on the partition where win98 already resides, it ain't gonna work. You should either install it to another partition on the same drive, or better yet a second drive.

where on earth do you get your information from?!

w2k server CAN be installed onto a FAT partitions. it's not a real good idea but it can be done. the same goes for installing it to an exisiting win98 partition. w2k server will work (with some caveats) but it is a poor idea.

Sorry for the miss information and if I caused any confusion.

Should I choose FAT, FAT32, or NTFS as a file system?

For most Windows 2000 installations, Microsoft recommends that you format your partitions using NTFS on all drives over 1GB in size. If you are a home user and have no security requirements, or plan on dual booting your workstation between Windows 98 and Windows 2000, you may wish to use FAT32 instead of NTFS. NTFS is much more efficient than FAT32 on large volumes, provides file level security, encryption, compression, and support for RAID. Also keep in mind that you can convert a FAT32 partition to NTFS, but you cannot go back without reformatting your drive and losing your data. For more information, see our section on Windows 2000 File Systems

freezes

I've installed on NTFS on FAT32. I've installed backwards , frontwards. On the back of the partition, on the front of the partition. On C, On D, On E & F. fdisked and reformatted, fdisked and reformatted again.

The CD works on other computers..

This thing is got me confused

Can you get through the complete W2K install? It seems one of the only things left is the motherboard. Maybe W2K is looking for some driver the motherboard needs.
