A7N8X ethernet problems
after i got my system up and running i wanted to connect to the internet (who wouldn't). I have optimum online with a motorola cable modem. during the setup instructions in the manual i have to access winipcfg. problem is whenever I type winipcfg, in the run prompt it says windows cannot find it.

You must be running either 2k and Xp. Winipcfg is for 9x and ME versions of windows.

go to the command prompt and use 'ipconfig'
better yet, if you need to set IPs go to the Network Connnections (Control Panel), choose the properties of the connection of the modem, and go to the Internet Properties

i went run command and tried "ipconfig", a dos window blinked on screen and that's it. I tried repairing the connection but it stops and tells me it failed at "renewing the IP address."
After i close the box the properties shaw an IP address and subnet mask. i looked at the status of the two connections and the one thats working has a speed of 10.0 mbps, and the new copmuter has a speed of 100.0 mbps. how do I change that setting in XP??

you have to type cmd in the run box then at the dos prompt type ipconfig
so your directly connecting the modem to the network card on the motherboard?
Which one are you using? there are two, an nvidia one and a 3 com network card. (this is for the deluexe motherboard)
Do you have a software firewall installed?

Not sure how it works in Buffalo, but in England, I have to switch off the computer and the power to my cable box for 30secs, after which time switching it back on will trigger a new search for the cable connection, when I switch the computer back on Windows automatically finds the Net connection (I'm assuming you have already enabled the LAN port in the BIOS and installed the drivers). |

If you have the deluxe board the drivers are installed seperatly for the 3com nic.
For the speed of 10 mbps and 100 mbps, the 10 would be running at half duplex as the 100 would be running at full duplex.
You go into device manager and find the driver and right click go to properties and in the advanced tab find media type change this to which ever your cable modem can handle.

I have the NVIDIA nForce Networking adapter. when i go into my network connections folder their is only one category "LAN or High-Speed Internet" and this is under it. Yes, I'm connecting the cable modem to the built in ethernet port. that how i'm doing it with the computer thats working. but i really think it's the speed for some reason. no firewall installed.
I have been switching the plug in and out of both computers. and the computer thats working doesn't miss a beat.

Here's a Microsoft tool to add a Win98 style winipcgf to either WinNT, 2000 or XP: Windows NT IPConfig Utility
