Kids House speakers

This is probably a dumb question but...WHY can't you just wire in your house speakers to a computer? If this is possible, would you have to check out your computer's capabilities to handle a certain volume/power level?

You gotta love forums. No matter how dumb your question might be, it's WAY better then having to ask somebody you know...

actually, I've tried something like that before, but didn't work too well.

I had a two-end plug that fit into the speaker output on my computer, and so I plugged it into my A/V receiver and played some music. It WORKED, but it was kind of crappy sounding & had this buzzing noise that drove me nuts.

I suppose theres a better way, just haven't thought about it much.

im not 100% but i think you can if you get an adaptor from mini jack to RCA and connect it to the input of your amplifier. i think that the output of the soundcard is low level output ( little or no watts) so you would need an amp

yeah, that's basically what I did... But no amp. Maybe that's why it didn't work too well. Either that or because I was using the crummy onboard sound.

No muscle in a sound card to push any power.
You definatly have to run the outs on the sound card into a decent receiver or amp as most sound cards put out less then a watt.
That buzzing that you hear i've had problems with, never could get rid of it. I have always run HQ sound cards and it seems to be an inherit problem to some degree in every one.
If you run digital out, either through a Toslink or Coax, you shouldn't have this problem.
I've been running my sound through a Denon AVR-2400 HT rec with an outboard Denon AC-3 decoder, Klipsh KSB 2.1s and a Mission sub for 3 years now. The sound with this setup can't be touched by any comp speaker setup that i've heard.
IMO it's the only way to go.

as sam pointed out, the output of the soundcard isn't hot enough to provide a good signal to your amplifier. The best solution would be to purchase a cheap preamp that could boost the strength of the signal coming out of the soundcard and pass the hotter signal on to the amplifier.

Thanks Everyone. I have to go to work right now, but I'll check for additional responses when I get home.
