trouble with zip drive, please help

here's the deal. I just put together a pretty nice system, including the following components:

Abit BH7 motherboard
P4 2.4b cpu
WD Caviar 40GB Hard drive
512MB Kingston KVR PC2100 DDR
Asus V7100 Pro AGP 4x 64MB
Lite-On 52x CD-ROM Drive
250MB Internal Iomega Zip
floppy drive

Here's how i have it setup. The hard drive and zip drive are setup as Primary master/slave. HD is master of course. CD-ROM is secondary master, with no slave. Everything works well normally, but yesterday when I inserted the 250MB zip media, the screen went black and i had to reboot. The zip does work ok most of the time, but it just seems to be causing instability.

Most of the systems i have built have not included an internal zip drive, so my question is, would you recommend an alternative way to connect the drive? As a general rule I have never been an advocate of putting anything but Hard Disks together on the same ATA 100 cable. Should i be using a separate controller for the zip?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks all.

IDE is not SCSI. Putting very fast drives onto the same cable as very old and slow ones (like HDD and Zip) is Not A Good Idea At All.
Make the Zip the CDRW's slave. That'll be a lot more likely to work.

i'll give that a try and see how it works. Can the zip drive be a slave on an ATA33 type cd-rom cable? I always thought it would need to be on an ATA100 cable. i'll let you know how it works out.
