Media Wirless Ops for Mandrake9.1 (HELP)

I have mandrake 9.1 loaded on a compaq armada piii@600meg. Everything loaded just fine. Problem is that I have a d-link dwl650+ wireless card. Found somedrivers on the web, untarded in my home dir (new dir called d-link)
ran the config file and installed itself just fine.
Turned on my little light on the card. Problem is there is only the network configurator that is apart of, mandrake control center. I run network config but cant config the lan, it breaks right there and dumps me back to the control center panel. I managed to find that the wireless connection had a network id that I guess was set by the config script (something like 192.168.245.0 sub 255.0.0.0) been trying to assign the ip, but cant get it done. Linuxconf doesent seem to be apart of man9.1. Anyone have any ideas????

ifconfig wlan0 192.168.1.100 netmask 255.255.255.0
route add default gw 192.168.1.1
ifconfig wlan0 up

that should be correct, haven't had to do it in a bit
(mind you change the settings for your case.. also make sure to change wlan0 to whatever your nic is called )

if vass' idea didn't work on ur comp, then if u have cable, try to set ip addresses to auto detect, DNS and WIN to auto/nothing, and DHCP enabled. i kno u said u tried to change those things, but didnt kno if u can auto it. if u have DSL and maybe PPPoE, then i guess install the software for it.

never mind. i guess the wireless card is connected to some sorta router which i think hasta be set on ip 192.168.0.xxx or whatever u mentioned for ur comp. screw everything i said.

Thanks. Now you are understanding. I'm caught in that loop, everytime I try to configure my lan, the gui interface drops me back to the control pannel and does nothing else. I was able to reset the ip and net mask via the cl but the card is recognized as eth1:9 (duh????) havent been able to make it find and use eth0. These drivers appear to config alright. Think maybe I will try mandrake 9.0 today. the drivers readme say they will work on it also.

eth1:9 suggests that it is setup as a virtual interface (number 9) on the second nic installed in your machine, just incase you were wondering

Yea, that did puzzle me. The carbus is located in the eth1 slot (I think, top spot is 1 and bottom is 0). What I am trying to figure out is how to get the drivers i downloaded to be apart of the dropdown list when the wizzard ask you which driver you want selected. I think if I could get that right then the script would go on to setting up the lan. I havent figgured out how the get it done by command line either????

Send a message via ICQ to storm2k Send a message via AIM to storm2k Send a message via Yahoo to storm2k
generally over the command line, vass's method will work. assuming the driver installed correctly, you should be able to just type ifconfig and it will show what your wireless card is called by the sysem (be it eth1 or some such).
