Systems How do I access my settings...

I just installed a Linksys 54g wireless router and now I am curious how I can access any of it's settings.
The deal is that I am getting a laptop next week with a wireless card (Dell 5150). And I bought this router today to get ready for hooking up my wireless. I figured I would work out the bugs in my internet connection before getting the laptop. So I hooked up my desktop to thewired part of the router. I saw a few settings in the install that had stuff like "what channel is it operating on" and "passwords".
I am wondering how I get back to that stuff, or is it in the install disk?
Also, how do I change the channel on my wireless card in my laptop? Or how do I know which channel the laptop is using?

BTW, I was very impressesd with how simple hooking the wired part of the router was. Just slip in the disk, and 10 minutes later I was all connected. I didn't have to know anything, (which is a bonus for me! )
Thanks!

Thanks. That did the trick. I just had to remember to just put in a password and leave the login blank

Make sure you change the password to a good strong password. You can use the login "admin" if you would like.

Also, since it is wireless, make sure you secure it with WEP and MAC filters.

I did that at the setup.
My other question now is...
How do I "see" the other computer on my network? I just set up another wired machine that is running XP. I want to be able to see that machine, and have that machine see my 98se machine. I went through part of the install and thought that might be what it was doing, but I still cannot see it in Windows Explorer. Is there a setting I need to change?
Thanks again!

You will have to share something on the other machine. Someone else will have to pickup the part on how to do it in 98, been years since I have. In XP right click on a folder and goto Sharing and Security and you will have the option to share that folder.

Here is a link that should help with 98.

After all that is setup you should see the other in Network Neighborhood or My Network Places. Or, you can go start--->run \\computername\sharename

What a great forum. Super fast answers, and away I go!

I was able to figure out the sharing situation. Now I can see exactly what I need, plus add password protection!

Now if I could only get my HP710 all in one printer to be able to be accessed from the XP computer. I can click and share it, but I get a driver error on the XP machine. I wonder if I need to install the XP drivers on that machine, and the 98 drivers on the 98 machine? Anyone got an idea?

Also, I still have a laptop wireless question... How will the laptop know what channel to tune to? Or do I have to set that up on the laptop? The router has some kind of setting to broadcast a signal letting other wireless cards know it's there. (I think I read that somewhere) What is that called and what do I set it to?
Is it MAC filter, or WEP, or SSID Broadcast?

Thanks,
D

You will need the XP printer drivers for the XP machine. You nailed that one. The all-in-ones don't share very well. I have only been able to use the printer portion in the past.

The channel selection is automagic. The SSID is how you identify your network, when XP sees them it will give you a list of SSIDs that are available. Make it unique but nothing important, don't use a password or name since anyone will be able to see it.

MAC filter lets you decide which network cards can talk to the access point using MAC address, which you can get from a sticker on the card or from ipconfig /all.

WEP is encryption which encrypts traffic, you will need to put keys you setup on the access point in on the client to be able to access it.

Ok, good news bad news type of day.
Good news...I got my laptop a week earlier than expected!
BAd news, I got home and my #1 computer on the network wasn't connecting to the internet. 2 hours with Linkys tech support and I finnaly got it up and running. Not sure what we did, the last thing was uninstalling Zonalarm and releasing and resetting the IP address.
They said that the connection will periodically just "time out". They have no idea why, or when it will happen. Nice thing that is.

Oh well, I got my laptop hooked up on the network, and also the other two. But I feel like I am just waiting for one of them to get booted and then going through two hours of tech support to ge back online again.
Anyone have any ideas on prevention or why it happened?

Thanks
D
