Defective PNY Geforce Fx 5200 ultra??

My new PNY Geforce fx 5200 ultra was working fine but now is having problems. When I start my computer, the boot screens all are fine, but the problem comes when the Windows 2000 splash screen comes up. Sometimes it is fine and other times it has several vertical blue line on it. Then when goes to boot into windows it goes distorted and the screen goes blank, but windows continues to load. Does it sound like or should I say " look like", the card has a hardware problem or is it a software problem? I installed the newest FX drivers from Nvidia, but did not help. Also, I did not see any Bios updates on the PNY site for this card.

My pc specs are:

AMD xp 2100
512 mb ram
350 watt Enermax ps
ECS K7S5A pro MB

Hey! Welcome to TechIMO!

Sounds like its a hardware problem with the video card. Since you just got it, return/exchange it at the store you bought it from. Anyone correct me if i'm wrong

thank you for the help imac9556 ! I was wondering though, this card has a power connector on it, if I did not connect a power cord from the psu to it what kind of symptoms would card have from lack of power?

If the power was not connected, you'd have blurry pictures, weird lines across the screen, ect.

There could be a good chance that your power supply is not enough for your setup.
