Linux/Windows/Boot Problem. HELP!

Ok, here’s my problem:
I installed Redhat Linux 9 on my ThinkPad X21 series notebook. I then deleted Linux and did a bunch of other stuff and now when I boot I get the word “GRUB” and nothing happens. I can’t reformat because C: is labeled all wrong and has a bunch of crap in the volume name like smiley faces and ¼. I called IBM and they said the only way around this would be to restore it with the factory restore stuff. I think there must be some other way. Please anyone dear god help me. I live on this computer and if I can’t fix it, I may die . I will do anything, reformat anything. O please god help!

Try to boot off of a boot disk and fdisk /mbr

That should clear out grub if you installed it to the master boot record.

If you are using 2K on the laptop then you could also try to boot into repair mode and repair the installation.

XP's repair process isnt automated, but you could give the recovery console a shot if you are feeling lucky
