Talk Video Card Question

Ok heres my question?

I just installed an Asus V9520VS (FX 5200) which for now is more than I need as it has dual DVI/VGA output and VIVO but when ordering it I noticed it said

RAMDAC: 400MHz
Memory Clock 400MHz(200MHz DDR)

Now that its installed I see that it says

Engine : 250MHz
Memory : 400MHz

Am I right in thinking Engine and RAMDAC are totally different and that its just not downclocked (it was on sliders for overclocking it)? whats the difference between engine speed and ramdac and why have they stopped saying engine spped and saying ramdac????

Hi,
Engine and RAMDAC are completely different things. The engine refers to the cards main processor and the RAMDAC refers to its digital-to-analogue visual output ... so for monitors and TVs. DAC is an acronym for Digital to Analogue Converter. The faster the RAMDAC the higher refresh rates possible (and often the better quality it is too ... but that's debatable).
Regards,
Elad.
