If you have onboard video or another video card, try it. It's possible your heatsink shorted some components on your video card. You would get PC POST beeps though. Your CPU could have fried also with no HS installed. It really only takes a couple seconds with power on to fry a 1GHz+CPU with no HSF installed. If your HSF fell off, I fear it was never properly mounted which means you might have been running your CPU hot for some time with only partial coverage(thermal transfer).

Did the heatsink hit the video card when it fell? Check all your cards, make sure they are seated right, also check your ram. I know if one of my heatsinks fell off on of the processors they would do allot of damage on the way down.

Good luck.

my video card is not the problem, i just tried it with my PCI geforce4 mx 420.

it did hit the video card on the way down, the video card prevented it from going down any further

WHAT OTHER POSSIBILITIES ARE THERE? WHAT ELSE CAN I TRY/DO?? HELP ME OUT HERE, I CAN'T THINK STRAIGHT...

Hey, did you try to reset the CMOS by using the jumper? How about letting the PC sit with the main power unplugged forawhile?

Have you also check if the Processor is ok? Look for chips on the core of burnt marks..
thanks
