CD ROM Drives: 2 in less than six months?

Yay! Greetings to the "old" ones.
I heard from this forum when I had a problema with window's NTLoader, and now, I must ask your help.

I bought this computer in early february and, since then, two CDROM drives (one RW) just, fried (I dunno).

I thought at first that it was some VCore problems (asus has this problems with VCore (by the way, it's an asus a7n8x box)), but came to me that the MOBO has nothing to see with the CDROM power-up.

The first one didn't read any CDs, this one does'nt even open.

Does someone has any idea??

Thanks, []s

Are your power supply wires stretched out between devices I did this once being stupid and cooked my DVD/RW and a DVD drive.

What brand are your CD drives? Cheaper cd drives seem to wear out faster than a better quality drive.

Nope. All "energy source"´s (I'm from Brazil... How do you call the thing that provides power up for the computer? font?) wires are tied between themselves (looking like rounded cables), but not between computer parts.

But i don't think it would be the source of the problem, 'cause i only did this a month ago, and (correcting), the first CD drive fried out about two months ago.

I'd try and get warranty on your cd drive, (if it's only 2 months old you should still have warranty on it) then just swap it with the new one.

"Energy Sources"? Do you mean the Power Supply? The big metal box at the top of the computer that the wores come out of?

Anyway, the Vcore only affects Motherboard and Processor operations. You need to look at the 5V+ and 12V+ settings.

My first thought is to use a multimeter/voltmeter to test the voltages (Yellow (positive) and the black beside (negative) is 12, the red (+) and the black beside that (-) is the 5 volt). It is possible that the PS is screwing up your drives.

However, the drives failed after a month or so of use (usually it'll be in a few weeks or as little as a day if the PSU is bad, and other drives would be affected as well), so it's probably something else. What brand of CD-Drives are you using? And do you happen to be in a place with lots of moisture or dirt in the air? Are your CDs clean and do you clean the heads on teh CD-Drive regulary with a CD-Cleaner disc?

I used two LG CD-ROMs, one 52X and this last one 8x12x32x.

Yeah, source i mean power supply

I did this on the pait, so take a look and see if anything is wrong. Is the same as the paper "glued" to my supplier.

About the CDs, no, I never cleaned them, nor does my brother and he NEVER had any problems with CD-Roms...

Damn, another 100 bucks to spend

The little side pannel tells me little. You need to go use a voltmeter/multimeter and test the leads yourself. The reason is that if the supply has gone bad and it's putting out X-tra volts you can tell.

-edit- Out of the corner of my eye I see 110 Watts on that chart of yours. Hmm...is that the rating of the PSU or is my waning spanish/nonexistent portugese (I can't even tell the difference now ) seeing things?
