In general, the amount of power that a CPU uses is about equal to the amount of heat that must be dissipated by the heat sink. So, the size of the heat sink is actually a good indicator.

The VIA C3 processor is very efficient, but not very fast. The P3 is also pretty efficient, but again - it doesn't keep up with the current breed of CPU's.

As far as I know, there's not too much difference between the current high end Athlon & P4 CPU's - although I'm sure someone can post the exact wattage specs for each model.

Tom's Hardware did a review (http://www6.tomshardware.com/howto/20030609/index.html) a while ago on some high-end power supplies and their efficiencies varied between 64.5% and 78.1%. The best one was a Fortron 400W power supply.

Thanks !
I have read some time ago...

...But

A) tomshardware isn't neutral.... so we cannot have so much confidence (=be sure of what he told! )

b) hoping that in this case he have said the trust (....so much improbable)...we know just a 400w PSU and for other power???
we cannot know if in the other power win Fortron again in efficiency (
