What OS are you running?

Do you have a router between you and the cable modem?

The information below was supplied by Siliconjunkie from another thread. I seems to apply here also.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Install PingPlotter http://www.pingplotter.com/ and set it up to do www.google.com an unlimited # of times.

Once you push start you will see a graph forming to the right. The column we are interested in is PL% (Packet Loss %). When the connection fails it will register there. If it is happening at the first entry (your router) then the problem is somewhere in your network. Beyond that it is somewhere in the ISPs network or possibly the Internet side of your router (doubtful).

I'ld like to reinforce what meese suggested, PingPlotter can do what you need. It makes a gragh based on the ping frequency you set. You can export the graph as a picture file or export the results in a numerical format. Either way, you will have a record of your Inernet connectivity. Btw, you could have it start up automatically by running... "C:\Program Files\Ping Plotter\PingPlotter.exe" /TRACE:216.239.39.99 in a batch file located in the Startup folder.

Instead of Google.com, ping to 204.71.200.37 which is closer to the server Yahoo Messenger relates to.
