1st Custom Comp, COMPATIBILITY?

Hey guys, just joined the forums. Have a couple of questions I would like to ask some of the more expert posters here. I am finally making my own computer after quite some time of thinking about it, I have decided to go with an AMD 2800 Processor, I got some questions on compatibility tho. Here is the stuff I am getting.

ASUS A7N8X-X Motherboard
AMD Athlon 2800+ Processor
40 GB Syntac Harddrive
CD-RW
512 DDR CL 2.5 333mhz

Will these parts go together? I am getting the tower from newegg and I have been told that it is the best one for custom building, cheap and reliable.Antec Smart Power

Would really appreciate some feedback on what I should do, I have a 900$ budget on this and so far I am back 550, only thing left is the Video Card but I will likely take a Radeon 9600.

Thanks

Jeremy

The only thing you have to keep in mind is that the CPU, motherboard and RAM should run at the same speed. Since the CPU is a 2800+, I can only assume it hs 333mhz FSB. You specified that the ram runs at 333mhz. Just make sure that the motherboard is also at 333mhz and you'll bet set. As far as I know, all boards based on the KT400 run at 333mhz; as for Nforce based boards, I'm not exactly sure.

Then why does my CPU run at 266FSB, RAM at 333, and motherboard up to 333?

I never said it wouldn't work, it just means that your CPU is not able to utilize all the power of the ram and motherboard. You should try to get matching things so that nothing is bottlenecking.

so what if the MOBO fsb runs at 800Mhz? I have selected a P4 processor that runs at that speed. Is there ram that runs at 800Mhz? Sorry if this is stupid question,I am pretty new.

I think RAMBUS runs at that speed but you don't want to support them, they're a bunch of jerks.

I don't have first hand knowlege, but I've seen a number of posts complaining of RAM compatibility issues with the ASUS, as well as the other nForce 2 boards. Be sure to do some research regarding what brands of RAM are proven to work well with that particular board.

Ragtop is right, go with a good brand such as Mushkin or Corsair, i got some mushkin this week for my A7N8x and I'm well pleased. You should also consider getting two 256 MB chips to utilize the Dual Channel capability, it seems to help me quite a bit.

jmebonner:
What are the specs on your A7N8X? Would really like to see what stuff you went with so I can get an idea before I buy.
