xp svchost.exe

Suddenly i started to get the message-

svchost.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0xf34061ba" referenced memory at "0xf34061ba". The memory could not be "read".
with OK and Cancel options....

pressing any of them does nothing and the message is displayed again....

and XP Themes, Dail-up connections, etc would not work....
i have tried system restore and chkdsk...


My system specs are-

P4 1.8GHz
256 DDR RAM
Windows XP Pro

please help as i am not being able to work on the computer...

The 'memory could not be "read"' error is horrendous, it could be anything.

But the first thing you might want to try is install sp1.

ohhh... forgot to mention that i've already installed SP1 and the error started to come a few days after that....

also the hex nos are always same and getright says that there is not enough memory....

Oh! I think I got that error when I installed SP1 with my ftp server program... There was nothing to do but remove sp1 and it worked like a champ afterwards.

(we regularly get the "read"/"write" error at work, which was due to bad novell client).

So it might be one of your programs, or the os itself.

I just removed sp1, can't remember how (does it ask like with normal service packs to back up files so it can be removed if so asked?).

but wat bout the updates that were in SP1.... i cant download it again on dail-up(i installed xp some days back)...

Do you need the updates?
I don't update my box unless there's a reason to, there are loads of inappropriate updates available (like updates to database engines, updates to software not used). There's no real reason to have them.

However, if you really really want to have the sp1, you have to wait for someone else for answers as I do not know any other way of circumventing "read"/"write" errors but updating software that causes it (how do you know which software? you guess) or goingback to functioning system state.
