Power Supply question

Is it safe to remove unneeded wires from a power supply. I just bought a brand new ATX power supply and I have that p8 connector for old AT motherboards that just gets in the way. If I took the cover off and followed the wires, would it matter if I removed them?

When you say, 'remove', do you mean, cut the wires?

Power Supply

Yes, cut or would they just be able to be pulled off?

I wouldn't recommend to cut them. What if in the future you need them again, or they might short out each other.
But if you cut them, make sure you put electrical tape at the bare ends...

Power Supply

I dont use AT motherboards. And plus, dont AT motherboards take a p8 and p9 connector? or a p7 and p8. This one only has a p8, and I was wondering if the wire would just pull off, or if I would have to cut it?

If you're going to disconnect them I would recommend unsoldering the wires from the PCB in your power supply, this way they can't ever short out and destroy any of your other hardware. I'd let the power supply sit unplugged for a while though (be safe and leave it for a few days), the capacitors in there can hold quite a charge.

short the caps and then leave it out for awhile and it should be safe - make sure you dont take off any wires you need or you will have to solder them back in and itll become a big mess
