What is an AMD prosussor?

I just got an AMD Barton 2500+ blah blah blah. Any way windows says its an AMD Prosussor???

Its also not running very well...or actually my system isn't and I'm curious if the miss naming is part of the problem? I just installed XP PRO on this system

AMD AthlonXP 2500+ (defualt heatsink + AS3)
512mbs PC-2700 DDR
EPOX 8RDA+
ANTEC Sonata w/280 watt PSU
Radeon 9800 PRO 128mb
52x24x52 MSI Dragon burner
16x sony DVD
2x 40GB 7200RPM WD ATA/133 drives

The system just doesn't preform as well as it should like quake 3 I only get 208fps while similiar systems get about 300. I think it might be CPU related cause I can shove AF to 16x and FSAA to 6x and get 178 which isn't a big enough drop to be just graphics I'm thinking.

I noticed an option in my bios for clock throttling which is the only explination I have right now. My CPU runs a tad hot (120-130f idle). My other CPU's have all run about 100 idle (XP 1800+ and 1ghz duron). I'm a little afraid to turn clock throttling off but what do you guys think?

Try disabling thermal throttling... I had mine on, and when I ran the sandra CPU scores, it came out REALLY low, even though the CPU was only about 45C... I turned it off and now its running the way it should.

oh hey, I don't care anyway Rockpile, but nice that you weren't. So many do have illegal I just wanted to clear it up. The CPU is US straight from Newegg.

RamonGTP, well I'm getting bad CPU scores in Sandra as well, so I guess thats what I'll do Some tech support guy at the place they make the igloo silent breeze's says 120 is fine and 130 is ok. I'm just a little scitteris cause like I said all my other CPU's have been super cool. My case and low RPM fans just make it hotter. O well.

Hi -

Just reading around it looks like updating your bios might fix this "prosussor" problem you are having as it has for other Barton users suffering from the same problem...

Maybe you got a pirate copy processor.

Seriously, I've no idea. But Windows does those things sometimes as well. I got a "Yntax Error" in IE once, when typing a malformed URL. As far as the speed ratings go, I can't say.
