Midi Problems

I have a 61 key midi keyboard and a sound blaster live 5.x soundcard

my problem is that when I play my keyboard to record a track in cakewalk for example, usually all the keys register, but not all the keys are played back (i.e. I'm hitting say 6 keys at once and I'll hear 4 of them).

Is this a hardware issue (need a better soundcard), my keyboard (midiman keystation), or some software issue?

I've been wanting to play my keyboard for recreation for a while now but no sense if not all the keys register, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

p.s. any recommendations for good sound packages... i.e. I would like to have various piano packs that I can just play on the keyboard that really sound like a piano rather than the sounds that come with my sound card. thanks.
